About Rajkot

Rajkot is considered to be one of the fastest developing urban areas in the country. This city is situated on the river banks of Aji and Nyari. This city is also included in the top ten list of the cleanest Indian towns.

The Jadeja Rajput Clan did the establishment of the city in the year 1612. Rajkot was the capital of the Saurashtra State from 15 April 1948 to 31 October 1956, before its merger with Bombay State on 1 November 1956. Rajkot was reincorporated into Gujarat State on 1 May 1960. It is widely popular as the town where Mahatma Gandhi completed his early education.

Rajkot has many historical landmarks and places. The Jubilee Garden is a large, open park in the centre of the city featuring many monuments from colonial times. Located prominently in the centre of the garden is the Connaught Hall. Other notable points of interest near the garden include the historic Monandas Gandhi (Alfred) High School (Now Mahatma Gandhi Museum), Kaba Gandhi No Delo, Rashtriya Shala, Watson Museum, Rotary Dolls Museum, Lang Library, Rotary Midtown Library, Swaminarayan Temple and Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

he Rotary Dolls Museum has a collection of more than 1,400 dolls from all over the world. This museum is being managed by Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown along with Rajkot Nagrik Sahakari Bank. The Museum has earned a place in Lima Book of Records for its unique collection of dolls.Pradhyuman Zoological Park is located near Lalpari Lake in Rajkot, Gujarat. It is commonly referred to as the Pradhyuman/Rajkot Prani Sanghralaya. The area covered by the park is 137 acres wide. Many locals and tourists visit this place as a popular picnic destination

Rajkot provides a range of traditional and modern shopping malls across the entire city.Products made in Rajkot include jewellery, silk embroidery and watch parts. Industrial products include bearings, diesel engines, kitchen knives and other cutting appliances, watch parts (cases and bracelets), automotive parts, forging industry, casting industry, machine tools, share market and software development. The city is also home to several CNC machine and auto parts manufacturers.

Garba is popular among both, men and women and is performed during the festival of Navratri. The dance starts before midnight and continues until dawn. Mata Ambe, who rides a lion, has a special reverential status with any highly religious Gujarati. The 'Janmastami Mela' is organised for five days at the Race Course grounds to celebrate Janmastami. Diwali is one of the most important festivals and is usually a week long holiday.

Mahatma Gandhi Museum

Mahatma Gandhi Museum, Rajkot was previously known as Mohandas Gandhi Vidhyalaya, Alfred High School and Kathiawar High School established on 17th October 1853 with 36 students. Gandhiji completed his graduation from Alfred High School (Kathiawar High School) in the year 1887. Out of 38 students who had passed the high school entrance examination, Gandhiji was one of only two students in his year of matriculate. Mahatma Gandhi Museum is a grand tribute to 'Father of The Nation" Mohandas "Mahatma" Gandhi.

The Rotary Clubs across the world have generously donated these Dolls to the Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown. This vision was conceived in 2001 by the Rotarian Mr. Deepak Agrawal. Pradhyuman Zoological Park is located near Lalpari Lake in Rajkot, Gujarat. It is commonly referred to as the Pradhyuman/Rajkot Prani Sanghralaya. The area covered by the park is 137 acres wide. Many locals and tourists visit this place as a popular picnic destination as an excursion or a school tour visit. The two lakes surrounding the park – Lake Lalpari and Lake Randarda provide a natural habitat for migratory birds along with the variety of flora and over thirty-five thousand trees. There are in-built necessities and cafes. Golf carts are provided for senior citizens. There is an extra charge for availing cameras and video-recorder inside the park.

Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, also known as the Khandheri Cricket Stadium, is a cricket stadium in Rajkot, India. It is Gujarat's first solar-powered stadium. In 2013, the first international match took place in this stadium. The stadium has seating capacity of about 25000 seats. Stadium has three stands, South Pavilion, West Stand and East Stand. It also has corporate hospitality boxes in South Pavilion and West Stand. It also has President Box and Secretary Box. The stadium is built about 6 feet above ground level and that gives extra ordinary view to each spectator.
